Welcome members!

It would great if you felt like introducing yourself here.
You could tell us something about who you are
about your interest in this issue of violence and learning
perhaps something about where or what you are teaching or studying
and the students and/or colleagues you are working/learning/teaching with….

Really whatever you feel like sharing here so that we have a sense of each other as we settle in to discuss and support each other on this journey to understand the complexities of how violence affects learning and how to learn and teach to make learning easier…

I look forward to meeting you – in the next post i’ll introduce myself properly :-)

Jenny

Hi all:

My name is Judy Hofer and I currently run a small program of about 250 students in rural, northern New Mexico in the U.S. We are in the thick of budget cuts and anticipate that we’ll lose more than 25% of our funding this upcoming fiscal year. Education is the U.S. is truly moving from a right to an entitlement. I am particularly challenged as to how to negotiate self care with creating the most respectful, caring, and effective program in this context. How to keep on keepin’ on?
Judy

Great to “see” you here Judy – I’m sorry to hear that you’re coping with budget cuts – the same is true in Ontario, Canada – it always makes me so mad that cuts not only make it harder for potential students to get access to programs, but also just make it so much harder for practitioners to do the work – wearing us down – and and wearing us out with fundraising and frustration – and scarcity – when what we need is to be able to work in a climate of abundance that can support folks to learn who are living in poverty and have often been through hell.

Welcome – and thanks for giving feedback on our community-based tool – hope you can take a look now it’s finished and in such fine interactive format.

Jenny
